Quartz sand filter media is a kind of water treatment filter media which is made of natural quartz ore, through the process of crushing->screening->washing->drying and other processes, and after the second screening.Appearance: white crystals in the form of polygonal spheres. The main component is silicon dioxide, containing iron oxide, clay and organic impurities.It is applicable in single-layer and double-layer filtration pools, filters and ion exchangers, and it plays a role in water treatment: removing turbidity and suspended solids, softening water, and pre-treatment of pure water. It is suitable for single-layer and double-layer rapid filtration pools and the bearing layer of industrial high-purity water filtration.

Classification of Quartz Sand

(i) Common quartz sand:

Ordinary quartz sand, i.e. SiO2≥90-99%, Fe2O3≤0.06-0.02%, refractoriness 1750℃, Appearance: white granule. Some large particles with yellow skin encapsulation on the surface.Granularity range 5-220 mesh, can be produced according to the user's requirements of granularity. Main applications: metallurgy, glass and glass products, enamel, cast steel, water filtration, effervescent alkali, chemical industry, sand blasting and other industries.

(ii) Refined quartz sand:

Also known as acid-washed quartz sand, SiO2≥99-99.5%, Fe2O3≤0.005%, using natural quartz sand as raw material, after careful selection, fine processing.Range of particle size: 0.3-0.5mm,0.5-1mm,1-2mm,2-4mm,4-8mm,8-16mm etc.. Can be customized according to user requirements. Uses: glass products, refractory materials, smelting ferrosilicon, metallurgical flux, ceramics, abrasive materials, casting modeling quartz sand, etc. In the construction of acid-resistant concrete and acid-resistant mortar, utilizing its strong resistance to acidic media corrosion ability.

(iii) High-purity quartz sand:

SiO2≥99.5-99.99%, Fe2O3≤0.001%, using natural quartz ore as raw material, after careful selection, fine processing. Granularity range 5-480 mesh, can be processed according to user requirements.Uses: high-grade glass, glass products, refractory materials, melting class, precision casting, wheel abrasives, etc.

 

Technical Requirement

1. The sum of crushing rate and abrasion rate of quartz sand filter media should not be greater than 1.5%.

2. the density of quartz sand filter media should not be less than 2.55g/cm3, the use of special requirements on the density are except.

3. quartz sand filter media should not contain see clay, mica and organic impurities, the water leachate of the filter media does not contain toxic substances. Mud content should not be greater than 1%, the density of less than 2g/cm3 of light substances should not be greater than 0.2%.

4. the burning reduction of quartz sand filter media should not be greater than 0.7%.

5. the hydrochloric acid soluble rate of quartz sand filter media should not be greater than 3.5%.

6. single-layer or double-layer filter media pool quartz sand filter media particle size range, generally 0.5 ~ 1.2 mn. Three-layer filter media pool quartz sand filter media particle size range, generally 0.5 ~ 0.8 mn.

7. in a variety of particle size range of quartz sand filter media, smaller than the development of the lower limit of particle size should be greater than 3%, greater than the development of the upper limit of particle size should not be greater than 2%.

 

Product Applications

It is suitable for single-layer and double-layer rapid filtration tanks and the supporting layer of industrial high-purity water filtration. Mainly used for water treatment to remove turbidity, reverse osmosis, and other ion exchange softening and desalination system of the front pre-treatment, can also be used for surface water, groundwater sediment removal.

The working principle of quartz sand filter media in water treatment process:

Quartz sand filter media combined with the filter container, used to retain suspended solids colloids and other particles in the water impurities, so as to play a role in filtration.

Quartz sand filter media in the process of water treatment and filtration, the removal of suspended particles, mainly by the particles and filter media, as well as particles and particles between the adsorption and adhesion is removed.

There are two main principles involved:

1. Suspended particles carried by the sewage migration occurs, out of the water flow line to the surface of the filter media close to the migration principle.

2. When the suspended particles in contact with the filter media, relying on some kind of or several kinds of force (which has van der Waals force, surface tension and Coulomb force) makes them adhere to the surface of the filter media, which is the adhesion mechanism of particles, in this mechanism, in order to ensure the quality of filtered water, to ensure that the filter layer of the filter media to a certain amount of surface area for the suspension of particles adsorbed on the surface of the adsorption of space, in order to provide sufficient space for the suspension particles adsorbed effectively on the surface of the filter media.Suspended particulate matter in the filter layer void water flow migration and transportation by precipitation, inertia, interception, diffusion, kinetic effects and other basic role of the process, placed in the particles are subjected to which forces, depending on the size of the turbid particles. In the filtration process, the surface area of the filter media plays the most important role, the larger the surface of the particles provided by the filter media, the stronger the adhesion of suspended solids in the water, in order to achieve a certain level of expected effluent water quality requirements, the surface area of the filter media should be provided to meet a certain minimum value.
